Lady Fox's Latest Piercing Adventure : The Industrial

Two of my very close friends both have this type of piercing done.  It's called an "Industrial", and true to it's name - it's very hardcore.  This piercing is the ultimate in a "two-for-one" deal, since it is a single barbell that runs through the top and side of the ear.  Needless to say, not for the faint of heart.

My last piercing was done at The Piercing Shop, but in my honest opinion, I was not very impressed with their shop.  The two girls that are the piercing experts there are very nice, but my girlfriend & I had a bunch of problems with our piercings, and the price was one of the highest I have ever seen.  The shop I got my tongue pierced at is no longer in business, and the one I got my nose done at no longer has a piercer on staff.  What was a girl to do?

Never fear!  I whipped out a copy of my last entry, took my own advice, and started researching.  I found everything I was looking for in The Skin Factory.  You can check out their site here: www.skinfactorytattoo.com

This tattoo & piercing parlor, conveniently located in the central Las Vegas area, is well established in the community.  They have an excellent piercing artist on staff named Steph.  With just one look at her you can tell that she lives & breathes piercings.. literally since her septum is pierced.  She had countless visible piercings, and has been professionally piercing for over two years.  She was knowledgeable about the type of piercing I was looking for, considering she has one of her own, and was an unsurpassable amount of "piercing aftercare" knowledge.  Truly a pleasure to get the poke from!

The Skin Factory has recently redesigned their shop, in a calming lavender color, with stainless steel accents & flash covering the walls.  Their licenses were proudly displayed, and all of their instruments came in pre-packaged sterilized containers.  Only new needles are used, and Steph washed her hands thoroughly before starting.

So now the fun begins.  What is it like to get a new piercing?  One word - Exhilarating.   I won't lie to you - it was painful.  So many times I hear people say, "Oh no.. my piercing didn't hurt.." Bull.  All piercings hurt.  Anytime you punch a needle through a part of your body, whether it be a tattoo or a piercing, it is going to hurt.  Tattoos have an irritating pain that feels highly similar to a 3rd degree sunburn, and piercings have a sharp, stabbing pain that turns into searing red heat after its done (if you don't believe me, take a look at how red my ear is in the pictures).

The question you have to ask yourself is, what is your level of pain tolerance?  For piercings, here's a good way to test yourself:  Take whatever body part you want to have pierced, and then pinch down as hard as you can, digging your nails in, for 30 seconds.  If you can handle that, then you can handle getting it pierced.  It's worth it - trust me.

After Steph finished up my ear, she handed me the mirror to take a look at my new modification.  A smile replaced the small amount of throbbing pain coming from my ear.  Definitely worth it.

"It helps not to look at the needle.. it'll just make you more scared."

          All done!

         "Ouch!"
