The
Right To Bare Legs

Many
women have despised pantyhose since their invention. What's worse, is
that some jobs attempt to inflict this hated garment on their employees
for forty hours a week. Women have been sent home, suspended, and even
fired for not wearing them.
When
women HAVE to wear them, many opt for the "Ultra Sheer" or
ones that advertise "So sheer no one will know you are wearing
them".
What
is so special about this clear piece of fabric that breaks when
something touches it?
Why
is it that if a woman chooses to go without to a job interview in the
middle of a hot Phoenix summer day sans hosiery, people look down at her
as if she cannot handle the position?
Sure,
many employers will allow a lady to wear socks instead of stockings.
However, I think everyone with a fashion sense will mock someone wearing
a knee-length dress, dress pumps, and a pair of brown trouser socks.
It's
become acceptable in recent years to wear open toed shoes to work. Some
places still insist that females must wear hosiery with open shoes.
Somehow, wearing a pair of Dr Scholl's sandals with Ultra Sheer
thigh-highs makes someone a more effective employee. No one can explain
how or why it is preached "You can't be professional without
stockings".
Employers
may mention "health codes" when it comes to a dress code
argument concerning this. There are NO health codes for working in many
industries concerning bare legs. Your bare leg is not dipped into
anything eaten by a consumer when sitting at a desk all day. Lives will
not be endangered because a lady is sitting at her office cubicle with
her bare toes sitting on top of the straps on her thong sandals. Some
jobs have stated codes simply because it's easier to lie to the
employees than it is for the head boss to say "I hate bare
legs". Extremely few employees will even consider question
"the law", so employers tend to use that as leverage.
This
is not just for ladies. Many men also prefer not to have their lower
extremities bottled up by heavy cotton. Dress sandals for men have
become accepted now for many daily functions & work tasks. Some
offices have adopted policies of "Women can go without hosiery, but
men must wear socks". Not many customers have ever called a
customer service hotline asking "Excuse me. Do you let your male
employees not wear socks?" A shopper will never lift up a pant leg
to check if the cashier's loafers are sockless.
Times
have changed. People have discovered that bottling their feet up all day
is unhealthy & highly uncomfortable. Why not listen to your
employees, instead of shunning them for not being well-groomed. They may
be a lot more professional than you think.
